We enjoy the comedy provided by these rascals,
as well as the sweet, genteel, big does eyes that look up at you when you scratch their back and talk directly to them.
Our herd is well socialized,
but also well put together as far as confirmation goes for the breed,
and I tell them that I think they're pretty,
but more practically- they provide a nutritious food that they love to give,
if it means being fed at the same time.
The Dashna 2 teat hand milker is what I use to save my stressed hands,
and I literally go a step further and use it as a foot pedal,
after my husband coordinated with me to design a little step stool that it sets on.
Milking has NEVER been easier.
And oh, it's good milk- the cream, the energy boost and the flavor.
It's especially sweet if the girls eat sweet feed, clovers, etc.
Not to mention it doesn't have hormones added and whatever else that's in store bought milk,
that give me problems.
I have given little Dixie cup samples to taste test to some skeptics of goat milk,
to have them be delighted with the resulting FLAVOR.
I remembered Lil' Miss Muffett who sat eating her curds and whey,
and would not be outdone by a little girl,
so I sat milk out on the counter with a loose lid to coagulate into curds and whey.
Being very cautious at first, I now know it won't hurt me
(food poisoning) due to the fermentation that kills other bad "stuff",
and I add powdered sugar and honey for a bagel spread,
or herbs for a blue cheese dressing.
It's also good with my chicken, akin to Parmesan cheese.
Okay, okay, this page is "about us", and we end up talking about FOOD.
Well, I guess that does explain things pretty well:)
